Poverty and social exclusion are driving factors that push children out of the childhood care they deserve. Families give up their children because they are too poor to care for them, or feel that it is the best way to help them access basic services such as education and health care. Children particularly girls, children with disabilities, ethnic minorities, children with HIV/AIDS and children born out of wedlock are victims of discrimination and neglect allied with other physical, social and emotional violence. The poor quality of alternative care reinforces the exploitation and inequality, and they risk becoming further excluded from society, as they grow up. In the worst cases, inadequate or unsafe care standards continue to expose them to neglect, violence and abuse.
DIN dreams and vows to bridge this gap by creating structures that provide a homely atmosphere for children to blossom to their full potential. DIN Foster Homes are visualized and established with this focus. Each DIN Foster Home is secular in nature and provides a safe and caring family environment conducive to their physical and personal development for eight most vulnerable children aged 5-8 yrs. Children in each home are cared and looked after like in a normal family with quality residential care, medical care, education in premier English-medium schools and recreational facilities enabling them to break their social exclusion and poverty. Currently, DIN has 55 homes across the city of Bangalore catering to the needs of 440 children in difficult situations from across the state of Karnataka. We dream to expand the wings of Foster Homes to thousands of marginalized and vulnerable children with the support of our Ambassadors.
